Herbal infusions, or tisanes, are not true teas as they do not contain tea leaves. They are plants and flowers that are infused in hot water and consumed like a tea. The essential oils from the flowers and plants are released as they steep. They are naturally caffeine free and offer a variety of flavors for those who watch their caffeine consumption. Common herbal infusions are peppermint, rose, chamomile, and lavender.
Although it is a small amount, decaffeinated tea does retain some residual caffeine through the decaffeination process.
